Corey, get a Trek 2008 color catalog from ANY Trek dealer---the pics/specs will help you select the bike of your choice. A Specialized Roubaix SL is expensive ( though I would suggest you buy from EBAY-Sporting goods category-CYCLING -BID as high as possible or buy a used mint unit!) Anyway, check for the GIANT road bike if there's a bargain.

For that price range, I would suggest

Trek- Trek 1.5 $1040

Specialized- Allez Elite Compact. It's right at the top of your price range at exactly $1200, So I would go with the Allez Double if you want money left over. It's only $800

Giant- I honestly don't know much about Giant so I won't even suggest one.

I would say go with the specialized but that's just because I'm biased (I ride a specialized)

However, the other people who have answered are right. Don't limit yourself to certain brands. Try out all different brands. Take test rides and choose the bike that feels best to you.

No question Tom is right. Fit rather than brand matters most. This price point is ultra competitive. A good fit means more time in the saddle and more fun. Just that simple.

Depends how you ride and what sort of riding you do !

I agree with Tom - why are you limiting yourself?

There are plenty of smaller brands out there, that would whip the big boys into the weeds!
